Rainy Day Learning Games

Next time you hear, "I'm bored" or your kids want to play a game, why not make it a learning game? I found these neat states and capitals flashcards which are FREE to download from freehomeschooldeals.com.

You can print two sets and make it a memory match game. I recently discovered that the colors of the cards match up nicely with the colors on Candy Land!

We played by sorting the color of the states into separate piles. The player rolls the dice to advance that number of spaces and draws a card the color they landed on. {The player next to them actually had to draw the card for them because the answer is on the back and we didn't want to take the risk of having cheaters!} They look at the colored side of the state and see if they can name the state and capital. If they do, they get to keep the card. Whoever has the most cards at the end wins. I will tell you from my experience playing this way was looonnnng! Great if you want to play for an hour. Alternatively, you could shuffle the cards, draw a card from the top, advance to that color, say the state and capital and move on. Cutting out the dice and counting spaces could save a ton of time. Also, if they missed the answer we put the card back in the pile for someone else to guess. Lots of review happening here!

Happy Learning!
